James Edward Agee was apparently married 3 times and outlived all 3 wives. According to his VA Death Certificate his parents were Lewis Agee and Ann Hill.

His first wife was Julia F Richardson (1848-1873), daughter of John and Jane Richardson. This Richardson family was living in Henry County, Virginia when the 1850 census was taken. Julia was listed as 2 years old. According to Virginia marriage records James and Julia were married 26 Dec 1872 in Henry County, VA. They had an unnamed daughter who was born Dec 8, 1873 and died Dec 9, 1873 at one day old. His wife Julia died the same day, Dec 9, 1873, of "childbed fever". The information on the deaths of Julia and their daughter comes from the Library of Virginia Death Indexing Project.
