Toulon - Bernard L. Bhear, 86, of Toulon, died at 2:55 a.m. Thursday, June 9, 2011, at the Toulon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

He was born March 10, 1925, at London Mills, IL, the son of Frank and Hazel Brown Bhear. He and Willodean Way were married on October 30, 1947, at Knoxville, IL. She survives, along with one son, Richard (Karen) Bhear of London Mills; four daughters, Sandra (Tapu) Matauaina of Lancaster, CA, Karen Seckman and Marilyn (Jeff) Beamer, both of Toulon, and Denise (Louis) Todd of Temecula, CA; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Bernard graduated from London Mills High School, and then served in the U.S. Army during WWII, as a paratrooper in the Philippine Islands. He worked as a coal miner for ASARCO, and was Superintendent of the Allendale and Mecco Mines, retiring in 1984.

He was a member of the Toulon American Legion and was of the Methodist faith.

Funeral service for Bernard will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at Toulon Funeral Home. Brother Marty Smith will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Toulon Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the Toulon American Legion.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Toulon American Legion, Parkinson's Foundation, or to the Stark County Ambulance Service.
