Cortez "Roebuck" Davis, 89, a retired Elgin merchant, died Thursday, June 9, 2011 at his home following a lengthy illness.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Elkins East Chapel with Stan Dean officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Tri-Cities Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Roebuck was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ. He served in the US Army during World War II and saw combat in the South Pacific. He enjoyed being on the farm working with his cattle and especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmit O. Davis and Florence Mae Clemons Davis of Rogersville; sisters Hazel Thornton and Austerlean Alexander; brothers Millard Davis, Delmer Davis and Oplen Davis; and a son-in-law Kenneth Williams.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Earline Greene Davis; daughters Beverlia Davis Hodges and husband Johnny of Rogersville and Florence Davis Williams of Rogersville; grandchildren Blake Williams of Rogersville and Blair Williams Berry and husband Jason of Huntsville; sisters Artheal Eaton and Jackie Cotten, both of Madison, Mississippi; nieces and a nephew.
The family would like to thank Dr. Robert Mann, Dr. James Northington, and Cassie and Mable for their loving care during Roebuck's illness.
Pallbearers will be great nephews and friends and honorary pallbearers will be the men of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.
