SGT US ARMY - WORLD WAR II - Awarded the Bronze Star Medal.
PRESQUE ISLE – Nathan P. Wilcox, 90, passed away Sept. 17, 2008, at the Maine Veterans' Home, Caribou, after a brief illness. Nathan was born Sept. 22, 1917, in Presque Isle, the son of Waldo and Ida (Pulcifur) Wilcox. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1940 to 1945, attaining the rank of sergeant. Part of Nathan's tour in the Army was spent in Europe, where he received the Bronze Star Medal. After the service he came back to Presque Isle and worked at odd jobs for a time, then went to work for the U.S. Postal Service in March 1947, where he worked for 31 years before retiring. He was also Vera Estes grounds keeper and gardener for many years, which he enjoyed. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Presque Isle and was a member of Bishop Daniel J. Feeney Assembly 4th Degree, Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of Ray Goding Post No. 88 American Legion and the Hayward-Frazier Post No. 2599, Veteran of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by a sister, Rachel Dow of Fredericton, New Brunswick; his stepchildren; several nieces and nephews; also a special close cousin, Alton Wilcox of Presque Isle, who Nathan went to school with.

He was predeceased by his wife, Beryl (Giggey) Wilcox; and brothers and sisters, Ralph, Reldon, Howard, Walter, Edna, Dorothy, Olive and Myrtle May. Interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery. (Bangor Daily News)
