Lois Schaumberg/Berry, 84, of Madison Ave., passed away Friday (March 21, 2008) at Hornell Gardens, following a short illness. Lois was born March 9, 1924, in Hornell to Leon and Stella (Day) Cook. She married Robert Schaumberg in 1942, who predeceased her June of 1965. She remarried Walter G. Berry in 1967, who also predeceased her, March of 1999. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by two brothers, Charles Cook and Harold Baldwin. She was a life long resident of the Hornell area where she was a devoted housewife and mother, but had also been employed at the former Marion/Rohr Textile in Hornell. At one time she managed Tracy’s Point Fish Camp at Lake Panasofkee, Fla. She was also a member of the Canaseraga American Legion. Survivors include a daughter, Linda (Albert) Schaumberg/Clutter of Homosassa, Fla.; four sons, Robert Schaumberg of Ithaca, Stephen (Mary) Schaumberg and Michael (Denise) Schaumberg, both of Canisteo, and Ronald Schaumberg of Hornell; two sisters, Thelma Grenthal of Hornell and Betty Maine; one sister-in-law, Bernice Cook of Hornell; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 E. Main St., Canisteo, where funeral and committal services will take place at the conclusion of calling hours at 8 p.m. Monday, with Rev. Brian Diffenbacher officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery in Hornell. Memorial contributions in Lois Schaumberg/Berry’s name may be made to the Canisteo American Legion, c/o Stephen Schaumberg, 138 Greenwood St., Canisteo, N.Y. 14823.
