---------Mrs. Sophia Bedei Dead
Mrs. Sophia Bedei age 56 years, died at 1:15 o'clock this morning at her home, ten miles northeast of the city. Mrs. Bedei was born in Germany, but came to United States when 18 years old. She leaves 3 children, Minnie, wife of Frank Kates, William and Emma. Her husband has been dead a number of years.
The funeral will be held Monday; services conducted by Rev. Adam Loepert: Interment at the German M.E. cemetery, five miles north(SOUTH) of Grand Ridge.
Sophia Hagedorn came with her family on the ship "Dr. Barth" on Feb. 9, 1864 from Hamburg to New York. She was 18 yrs old and came with her father, Henry Hagedorn age 50, probable mother, Elizabeth (Bierdemann) Hagedorn, Henry Conrad Hagedorn age 10 and Dorothea Hagedorn age 7. Already in Grand Rapids twp, were Henry Hagedorn's children, Frederick Hagedorn and Louise Hagedorn on the property which became known as the Hagedorn farm, about 1 mile south of the Bedei farm which was also owned by father, Henry Hagedorn and sold to John Bedei after he married Sophia. Elizabeth and Dorothea Hagedorn are believed to have died between 1865 and 1868 They are buried in a private cemetery not far from the Hagedorn farm property in a "Hagie cemetery" burial site. Some of the stone markers might have since been removed or knocked over and covered, and the cemetery not presently being maintained. Their deaths occurred likely before the German Methodist Episcopal Church & cemetery had an established site.
Sophia Hagedorn married John Henry Bedei on Feb. 23, 1868 in La Salle Co., Ill., and likely by a minister associated with the German M.E. Church-possibly a traveling minister of the Methodist church.
