U.S. Congressman. He moved to the United States with his parents in 1882 and settled in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1884. He attended International Business College, in 1898, Purdue University, (1899-1901), graduated from Ohio State University at Columbus in 1907, as a doctor of veterinary surgery and was meat and dairy inspector of Allen County, Indiana, (1908-14). He began the practice of veterinary medicine in Fort Wayne, Indiana, in 1914 and was Sheriff of Allen County, (1917-20, 29-30, 35-37). In 1939, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-sixth Congress and to the next four succeeding Congresses, serving until 1949. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he engaged in agricultural pursuits and was jury commissioner for the Federal courts of the northern district of Indiana, until his death at age 82.
