Mayor Harry W. Baals died last night at 10:05 o’clock at
Parkview Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient
since March 23. Death was attributed to a kidney ailment. He
was 67.
Mr. Baals was serving his fourth term having first been
elected in 1934. He came out of retirement in 1951 to win a
close election and return to office.
Mr. Baals was first married to Minnie Marie Witte of Fort
Wayne on Feb. 3, 1919 and to this union were born two
children, Mrs. Marcell Clara Smith of Fort Wayne and Donald
D. Baals. Mrs. Baals died December 27, 1936. In 1947, he
was married to Irene Rupp Brunette who survives as do the
two children.
The body was removed to Klaehn Funeral Homes.
