MORRISVILLE>> James E. Schon, 84, formerly of 205 West Ave Canastota died Friday afternoon Sept. 20, 2013 in Crouse Community Center where he had been a resident since Sept. 25, 2009.
Jim was born on Nov. 13, 1928 in Towanda, Pa. the son of Clyde and Violet Dale Schon. He attended school in Ridgeway, Pa. and moved to Oneida in 1954.
He married Marie Alice Lohr on Nov. 21, 1958 in Pennsylvania. Marie died on April 13, 2002.
Jim had been employed with the Oneida City School District as the head custodian at the high school for over 15 years retiring in 1991. He had been a route driver with the former Dewan Dairy in Oneida Castle for many years before they closed.
He had been a resident of Durhamville for many years and had been a member of the Durhamville Fire Department, the Durhamville Veteran's Club and the Oneida Moose Lodge No. 421.
Surviving are six sons, Larry Schon of California, Ronald Schon of Pennsylvania, George Lohr of Oneida, Gene Lohr of Clockville, James (Michelle) Schon of Verona and Jamie (Marcia Kiser) of Canastota; three daughters, Gail (Tony) Malone Oneida Castle, Gloria (Algie) Roland, Macon, Ga., Gwen Walker (Bernie Burke) of Canastota; one brother, Clyde D. Schon of San Diego, Calif.; one sister, Shirley Soper of St. Louis, Mo.; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was pre-deceased by a son Gary Lohr; a daughter-in-law, Trish Lohr; a sister, Marjorie and her husband Floyd McCarthy; a brother and his wife, H. Dale and Hazel Schon; as well as a brother-in-law, Carl Soper.
Graveside Services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2013 in Glenwood Cemetery 1456 Glenwood Ave. Oneida. Friends are invited and may call 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Ironside Funeral Home, Inc. 342 Main St., Oneida. Memorial Contributions may be made to Crouse Community Center Patient Activities Fund 101 South St., Morrisville, NY 13408.
