She was a native of East Lake in Dare County but had made her home at Harbinger in Currituck County for the last 35 years. She was the daughter of William Jefferson and Affie Basnight Twiford, wife of T.G. Dowdy and a member of the Powells Point Christian Church.
Survivors are her husband; four step-sons: Elwood of Sanford, Elmer of Hillsboro, Grandberry of Manteo and Lindsey L. Dowdy of Harbinger; three step-daughters: Mrs. C.L. Whitehurst of Norfolk, Mrs. Edward Jennings of Berkley and Carla Dowdy of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers: J.G. Twiford of Point Harbor and G.M. Twiford of East Lake; one sister, Holland Twiford of Portsmouth, Va.
