KELSO
"There was a wedding in Kelso last Thursday that partook of the
romantic. 'Shock' Eslick, failing to obtain the consent of John Scott Loyd for the
hand of his 14-year-old daughter, concluded, as lovers are prone to do, to possess
the prize without the consent. Accordingly, at an opportune time, in the absence of
the aforesaid father, stole the girl, brought her to Kelso, and the ceremony that
made them one was said by Squire Cowley in the public road in the presence of a few
witnesses, who had hurredly run to witness the performance. They left immediately,
submerged in an ocean of bliss."
