Gary L. Aversing, 57, of Davenport, formerly of Rock Island, died unexpectedly Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009 at Genesis East Hospital, Davenport.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Visitation is 2-5 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Make A Wish Foundation or the Scott County Humane Society.
Gary was born Dec. 29, 1951, in Rock Island, the son of Leo "Whitey" and Geraldine DePaepe Aversing. He married Susan Ann Goettsch, April 30, 1976.
He was employed as a supervisor at John Deere Publishing for 30 years.
Gary was an avid baseball fan and pitched in the Men's Fast Pitch League in Rock Island. He always enjoyed golfing with his Hilltop buddies, cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes, and hanging out with his brother at Ace's Place. Most of all, he loved to spend as much time as possible with his beloved granddaughter Ava. He will be remembered particularly for his wonderful sense of humor.
He is survived by his wife, Susan; daughters, Abby (Marshall) Tague, Madison Wis., Anna Aversing, London, England; granddaughter, Ava Tague; mother, Geraldine, Rock Island; siblings, Judy (Bruce) Carlson, Jayne Aversing, Janis (Dick) Housley, Jeff Aversing, Jennifer Aversing, Janine Aversing; many nieces and nephews; and his special pets, Mack and particularly Griffin. He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Aversing, and his infant brother Joseph.
