Artist, Educator. Born in New York City, son of William Picken and Florence Hopkins. He studied in Paris and at the Art Students' League in New York. His paintings and prints are represented at the Whitney Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, D.C. and the Kansas City Art Institute, as well as in private collections such as the Rockefeller Collection at Dartmouth and the Lowe Foundation Collection at the University of Miami. He had 22 one-man shows at the Frank Rehn Gallery in New York. Known mainly for his oil paintings of city scenes, landscapes and seascapes, he worked in multiple mediums. He taught art at Columbia University, Cooper Union, the Art Students' League, the Brooklyn Museum and the Kansas City Art Institute. He also taught at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, near his Tyringham summer residence. He was a veteran of World War I.
