Marion V. Abbott was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of William and Ann Veidt. She attended school at St. Margaret's Academy, and the University of Minnesota. She graduated from Immaculate Heart College in Hollywood, California with a BS in Science, and earned a MS in School Administration. Marion taught in the Los Angeles Unified School District for 34 years at the Senior High Level at Belmont, Venice, Gardena, and Washington High Schools. Marion and Dr. John L. Abbott were married for 26 years. They traveled extensively during school vacations and sabbatical years, with trips to Europe, South America, Africa, Asia and Mexico. They especially enjoyed ocean travel by freighter. After her retirement Marion served as a volunteer counselor with the Pregancy Center in Torrance. She was a Hospitality Minister for 9 years at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Lomita, California. Marion had family members and friends in Minnesota and California. Her California family included Leslie and Les Barclay of Granada Hills, Lynn and Phyllis Abbott of San Diego, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Marion's family and friends will always love her and she will be greatly missed. Marion's life was celebrated with a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Noon at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Lomita, California, followed by interment at Green Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, Marion requested that her friends and family make a donation to their favorite charity. (An obituary was published in the Daily Breeze, Torrance, California, on Mar. 21, 2010)
