Fred Dittman dies suddenly at home here
Resident of S.R. 25 Years, Sperry Flour Company Aide Succumbs
Fred August Dittman, prominent Santa Rosa resident for the past 24 years, died suddenly at his home in College avanue yesterday.
Dittman was a district sales supervisor of the grocery department of the Sperry Flour Company and widely known throughout the north bay area.
Born at La Crosse, Wisconsin, he was 51 years of age. For most of his lifetime he has resided in California.
In his youth Dittman was a prominent Wisconsin football player, and two of his sons have followed in his footsteps. He was the father of Phillip Dittman, former high school and junior college football star here, and Frederick Dittman who was a star guard and all-league selection at the Santa Rosa high school during the past year.
Dittman had been a lifelong member of the Presbyterian church, and for many years has served as usher for the denomination here. He was also a former elder and trustee of the church.
Although he had originally resided in Santa Rose, Dittman and his family made their home in Rincon Valley for many years. A few months ago, he returned to the city, aquiring a home in College avenue.
He had been in ill health for nearly a year, but his condition had not been serious. When he arose yesterday, he commented that he had "had the best night's sleep in months", but a few hours later he was stricken and died.
Dittman is survived by his wife Katherine Dittman, also prominent in the Presbyterian church here, and four children, Phillip, Frederick, Marcella, and Robert Dittman of Santa Rosa. He was the brother of Edward, Emma, and Adolph Dittman of Wisconsin.
Private funer services will be conducted Tuesday afternoon from the chapel at Welti Funeral Parlors, with the Rev. E. E. Ingram officiating. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
