The Oklahoman, Saturday, Aug 20, 1949:
Mrs Catherine Belle Burgess, who was the "adopted grandma" of the Rudolph Schwartz family, 1800 NE 48, died Friday in Northeast Resthaven Hospital. She was 95 years old and until she fell 10 days ago, lived alone at 1100 NE 50.

Mrs Burgess first met the Schwartz family 34 years ago. After the death of her husband 25 years ago, they were her only "family." Her only daughter died about 30 years ago.

"We'd take hot coffee and hot cakes to her almost every morning on our way to work." Schwartz said. She was the guest of honor several days a week when she shared the evening meal with Schwartz and his daughter, Jean.

Born in Bentonville, Indiana, Mrs Burgess came to Oklahoma City in 1902 from Iowa. Her husband, Tom was a dairyman before his death.

Services will be at 2 pm Monday in Hahn Memorial Chapel with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery. Rev. Max Stanfield, pastor of Putnam City Baptist Church, officiating.
