Joe Allen Deeds, born August 13, 1928, succumbed to the ravages of Alzheimer's disease on August 17, 2012 just two years after being diagnosed with the affliction. Joe lived most of his life in the Dallas area. After retiring from AT&T in 1986, he and his wife, JoAnn, moved to their lake house near Gladewater, TX, living there tranquilly for the next 14 years. The delightful lure of their two young grandchildren brought them to San Antonio in 2000 where they used their creative talents to create another welcoming home for friends and family. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Josephine White and Raymond Hamlin Deeds and his brother, James Ray. Joe's youngest son, Gary Allen, also predeceased him in 1990. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, JoAnn Reed Deeds, eldest son, Mark and his wife, Ann and their children, Zachary Allen and Erin Elizabeth, all of San Antonio. Following a life-long penchant for minimal fuss, Joe has chosen cremation and subsequent interment with Gary in the family plot at Gladewater. Friends are invited to the Deeds' home at 7535 Quail Run for a celebration of Joe's life with the family from 12 to 6 p.m. Saturday, August 25. Plans are being made for a memorial in the Dallas metroplex at a later date.
