Dorothy Joanne Akers, age 76, of West Alexandria, went home to be with the Lord on Monday afternoon, June 13, 2011 following a lengthy illness. Born September 24, 1934, she was a daughter to the late Rev. James Edward and Eva Mae (Goddard) Carrier. She retired from General Motors' Frigidaire Division after 27 years of service; and had been an avid bowler competing in Women's Leagues in Trotwood, Dayton and Eaton. Joanne was a longtime, devoted member of the Full Gospel Temple of Eaton.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years Charles E. Akers, whom she married May 21, 1954: sisters Edith Deeter of New Lebanon, OH and Arlene Harshman of Centerville, OH: and a host of other family and many, many friends.

Funeral services will begin 11:00 AM Friday, June 17, 2011 at the Robert L. Crooks Funeral Center at Preble Memory Gardens - 3377 US Rt. 35 - West Alexandria. Pastors Kenneth Harbaum, Raymond Rothwell and nephew Kenneth Akers will officiate. Friends may call on the family from 5:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
