Catherine Marie Simpson

Catherine Marie Simpson, 51, of Athens, died Monday, June 13, 2011, at Athens Regional Medical Center.

A native and lifelong resident of McMinn County, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Robert T. and Nellie Gaines and Lewis and Ella Mae Guffey. She was an employee of Walmart for 22 years and was a member of North Etowah Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Robert "Bob" Simpson of Athens; two daughters, Felicia Faye Simpson of Knoxville, and Chasity "Alexis" Simpson of Athens; her mother, Phyllis Guffey of Athens; and her father and stepmother, James E. and Pat Guffey of Dayton.

Funeral services will be 8 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home with the Rev. Oran Creasman officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Sullins Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Elisha Andrus, Randy Carter, Tracey Carter, Jack Curtis, Jordan Curtis, Johnny Exlime, David Morgan and Danny Perez.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home of Athens is in charge of arrangements.
