Samira Maupin Bronston was the daughter of Thomas Springer Bronston Sr and his wife Lucy Clark of Richmond, KY.

Her birth was noted in her father's bible as Semyra, her marriage record and all other indentures and other court documents read Samira. Her headstone reads Somiria, clearly an error.

Samira was married 22 Mar 1849 in Richmond, KY to Dr James Edward Baker (1826–1871) of Abbeville District, SC.

James was the son of Joseph Thomas Baker (1796–1870) and Laney Griffin (1796–1887) of Abbeville, SC. In 1853, his younger sister Henrietta Aurelia Baker married Thomas S Bronston II, widower of Samira's sister, Sallie Ann.

Samira and James were the parents of Lucy Laney Baker (1850–1908).

After Samira's death, Dr Baker married Mrs. Sarah A "Sallie" Howard, nee Fowler. He went insane and was enumerated as an inmate at Eastern Lunatic Asylum in Lexington in 1870. He died in 1871 and is buried beside "Somiria".
