HOUSTON, Texas – Jack Larkin Browning, 85, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2009 in Houston, from complications following heart surgery.

He was born July 1, 1923 in Ogden, a son of Jess Oscar and Bessie Thompson Browning. He was preceded in death by his parents and his dear sister, Jessie Bowles.

Jack attended the University of Utah before enlisting as a U.S. Naval cadet, becoming a Marine Fighter Pilot during World War II. He also flew a Corsair on numerous combat missions during the Korean War. Jack retired from active reserve duty in 1961 with the rank of Major.

He was employed many years a corporate pilot and sales manager in the oil and gas industry.

Married for over 61 years, Jack and his loving wife, Bette Averett of Ogden, shared a wonderful life together. He was a devoted husband and father, cherished by his many friends and family members.

Jack was a member and well loved leader of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving as a Bishop and in many other capacities in the Houston area over the past 40 years.

He is survived by his wife, Bette; twin sons, Brent R. Browning DDS and is wife Janeen; Kent J. Browning; JD and his wife Kim Browning; daughter, Brenda and her husband Mike Armstrong; grandchildren, Cory Browning and Ryan Browning, Khoa Nguyen, and Ashley Allen and Scott Allen; his little sister, Shannon King; and by Bridget, his precious toy poodle.

Graveside services were held at Lindquist's Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd., where Military Honors were accorded.
