His parents were Christian & Margaret (Kohlhass) Walter. He married Maggie McMillen on February 14, 1900, she survived along with one daughter, Eva Edna Cozine. Also surviving are five sisters and on brother.

Mr. Walter spent his entire life in Mount Carmel, Illinois. From 1917 to 1928 he was in the ice business. He then went into the retail grocery business.
