CIVIL WAR TROOPER & BUFFALO SOLDIER

Wilson Ballard was a farmer in Silver Creek Township, Greene Co., OH after the Civil War. He and his wife Amanda had the following children: Charles, William D, Mary, Frank and Wilson Junior. Wilson's brothers, George and Anderson both served with the US Colored Cavalry and his son Wilson A. Ballard, Jr. served in the Spanish - American War as a sergeant and was later commissioned a second lieutenant.

Wilson A. Ballard, Sr enlisted in Company A, 6th United States Colored Cavalry on September 24, 1864. He was promoted to Sergeant before he mustered out on July 15, 1866.

-Stoneman's Raid into Southwestern Virginia December 10-29, 1864.
-Capture and destruction of lead mines December 17.
-Near Marion December 17-18.
-Saltsville December 20-21.

-At Camp Nelson, Wild Cat, and Danville, KY, till July.
-At New Haven and Catlettsburg, KY, till October.
-At Covington, Ky., till December.
-At Louisville, Ky., and Helena, Ark.,Yill January, 1866.
-At Duvall's Bluff, AR, till April 15, 1866.
Mustered out April 15, 1866.
