Funeral services for William T. Ames, 64, who died at his home at 528 East Avenue, Sewaren, Saturday morning, after a lingering illness, were held Monday afternoon from his late residence.

Mr. Ames was active in many civic, social, fraternal, religious, educational and patriotic organizations and undertakings.

The late Mr. Ames was the son of William T. and Sarah Ayres Ames and was born in Woodbridge on February 12, 1869. He was
educated in the local public schools finishing with graduation from Woodbridge High School with the class of 1887.

He begann business life as messenger with the National Park Bank of New York City and rose through various promotions to the position of paying teller.

In 1906 he organized the First National Bank of Woodbridge, of which he was elected the first and only president. He served for two terms as a member of the Board of Education, was the first president of the Sewaren Public Library, was trustee of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the Township Committee for two years, secretary of the Boynton Real Estate Company, a director of the Masonic Hall Assocation, a member of the Natioanl Republican Club of New York, a member of the New York Section of the Green Mountain Club and was affiliated with the Americus Lodge No. 83, Free and Accepted Masons.

The deceased was also a director of the Rahway Memorial Hospital, a director of the Ostrander Fire Brick Company, and a past commodore of the Sewaren Motor Boat Club and a membe of the Sewaren Land and Water Club.

On November 24, 1892, Mr. Ames married Helen Boynton, daughter of C. W. and Eunice Adelia (Harriman) Boynton. They have one son, Oliver B. Ames. Both widow and son survive.

The late Mr. Ames retired on July 1, 1931, after forty-four years of continuous service with the National Park Bank, now the Chase National Bank.
