U.S. Congressman. During World War I, he served as a Sergeant in Company D, 350th Infantry, 80th Division, Intelligence Service, 1st Battalion, in England and France. After the war, he graduated from the State University of Iowa in 1920, from its law department, in 1922, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Alton, Iowa. He was the attorney of Sioux County, Iowa, (1925-37) and a member of the Iowa State Senate, (1937-41). In 1943, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-eighth Congress and to the next ten succeeding Congresses, serving until 1965. After leaving Congress, he served as vice president of the Orange City Savings Bank.
