US Congressman. Served in the United States Navy during World War II. Elected to represent Kentucky's 1st District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1959 to 1975. He was defeated in the primary in 1974. Also served as a Delegate to the Democratic National Convention from Kentucky in 1944, and Kentucky Railroad Commissioner for the 1st District, elected in 1955.
