MILITARY. Edmund Quackenbush served as a Private in Co. I, 144th New York Infantry from Sep 1862 to Oct 1864. He was then transferred to Co. F, 22nd Regiment, Veteran Reserve Corps, mustering out on 3 Jul 1865.
Note - The Veteran Reserve Corps (originally the Invalid Corps) was a military reserve organization created within the Union Army during the Civil War to allow partially disabled or otherwise infirm soldiers (or former soldiers) to perform light duty, freeing able-bodied soldiers to serve on the front lines.
