Marjorie "Widge" McLaughlin Hedderich, 79, of Sedalia, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Sylvia G. Thompson Residence Center.

She was born May 31, 1931, in Boonville, a daughter of Major General John C. "Jack" and Marjorie (Quick) McLaughlin, and great-granddaughter of John C. McLaughlin, one of the founding brothers of McLaughlin Brothers Furniture Company and Funeral Chapel. On October 22, 1954, in Sedalia, she married Paul J. "PJ" Hedderich, who died July 9, 1997.

She graduated high school from Sullins Academy in Bristol, VA, and graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia, in 1953 with a degree in Arts and Science. Widge and her family were longtime members of Calvary Episcopal Church where she was a former Acolyte Mother. She, along with her mother and others, made the needlepoint kneelers by the altar. For many years she served as secretary and served on the Board of Directors of McLaughlin Brothers Furniture Company and Funeral Chapel, a family owned business founded by her great-grandfather and great uncle. She was currently on the Board of Directors of the McLaughlin Brothers Real Estate Company. She was a former member of Sorosis, and was an avid reader of novels and history.

She is survived by two children, Elizabeth Ventress, and her husband, John, of Sheridan, AR, and Jason Hedderich, and his wife, Melody, of Sedalia; two sisters-in-law, Jane McLaughlin, of Annapolis, MD, and Dorothy Bellmer, of Mercer Island, WA; good friend Selma Bloess Norton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jack Hedderich; her husband, and her brother, Robert L. McLaughlin.

Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2011, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Harvel Sanders officiating. Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery. The family received friends from 7 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21, 2011, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
