Ada Violet Kretschmer, age 94, of Ethan, died Sunday July 23, 2006 in her home.

Ada was born April 5, 1912, in rural Davison County, SD to Godfrey and Kateryn (Doering) Markla. She attended country school, graduated from Mitchell High School and attended Mitchell Business College. On December 20, 1933 she married Alfred Kretschmer in Sioux Falls, SD. After their marriage they lived in Ethan and later moved to Washington, DC where she worked for the Interstate Commerce Commission. Later they moved back to Davison and Douglas Co. in 1943 and then to Ethan in 1946 where she was a stay at home mom. She worked as an assistant clerk at the Post Office in Ethan for many years. Ada was a lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing and mending, gardening, animals, returning to the family farm and her family.

She is survived by her son William and wife Barb of Ethan, SD; grandchildren, Tamara and husband Craig Millage of Connell, WA, Cindy Speas and Michael Speas, Denise Kretschmer and Debra Kretschmer all of Ethan, SD; great grandchildren, JackieAnn Speas with Tyler Helma, Heather Speas, Aliea KretschmerWebster all of Ethan, SD and Emmalee Millage of Connell, WA; extended grandchildren, Sheila McCartney and Carla and Tommy Wittstruck of Ethan, SD; extended great grandchildren, Michael Rosencrans, Cameron and Katie Wittstruck of Ethan, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Alfred in 1997 and one brother Howard.

Funeral services will be 10:30AM Wednesday July 26, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church rural Dimock. Visitation will be from 6 to 8PM Tuesday at the Will Funeral Chapel with a prayer service at 7:00PM. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
