Friday, March 18, 1921 - Oscar Melson Killed
Tuesday afternoon the earthly remains of Oscar Melson, who was killed in a wreck of a railroad speeder, were laid to rest in the St. Olaf Cemetery. (Note: He is buried at Zion Lutheran Cemetery). According to the report, they were riding on a speeder. Oscar and Alfred Melson were employed with a bridge gang to Wyoming when they struck a horse at a crossing, throwing off six of eight men, killing Oscar and injuring the others more or less. His brother Alfred came away with an injury on his hand. He accompanied the remains here. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to the bereaved family.
Card of Thanks: We wish to express our sincere thanks to the many friends who expressed sympathy at the death of our beloved son and brother, Oscar. We also thank Mr. Adolph Lien and the choir for the songs rendered, and the Rev. Thorkveen for the kind words of consolation. Mr. and Mrs. C. Melson and Family.
Oscar and Alfred were working for the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad Company.
Oscar had a child, Oscar Vernon Melson, who was born January 1921. Vernon's mother was Anna Moen, who married Loyd Orser in 1923. It's not known if Anna and Oscar Melson ever married.
