US Congressman. Elected as a Delegate from the Dakota Territory to the United States House of Representatives, serving in 1865. Served as a member of the Republican National Committee from Dakota Territory from 1870 to 1872, as a member of the Dakota Territorial Council from 1877 to 1878, as President of the Dakota Territorial Council in 1877, as a member of the Montana State House of Representatives in 1890, and as a member of the South Dakota State Senate in 1893.
