U.S. Congressman. He graduated from the law department of the University of Illinois, in 1893, was admitted to the bar in 1895 and commenced to practice law in Aledo, Illinois. He was prosecuting attorney of Mercer County, (1901-09) and a member of the Illinois State House of Representatives, (1915-16). In 1917, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fifth and to the next three succeeding Congresses, serving until he resigned in 1924. After leaving Congress he was appointed by President Coolidge as presiding judge of the U.S. Court of Customs Appeals, Washington, D.C. and served until his death at age 65.
