Death of Mrs. Susanna Oliver
Mrs. Susanna Oliver died Saturday evening, February 27, 1909, at 8:15 o'clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Emma Van Buren, East Indiana street. Her death was directly due to a decline brought on by old age, though for several years she has been helpless from paralysis. She was over eighty years old.
Two of her daughters, beside Mrs. Van Buren, were present at the time of her death, Mrs. Jeremiah Botkin, of Winfield, Kansas, and Mrs. Anna Demoss, of Thayer. Mrs. Alice Brown of Anadarko, OK., is the only other living child, arrived this evening. Since she suffered a paralytic stroke six years ago which rendered her helpless, Mrs. Oliver has made her home with her daughters, spending a part of her time with each of them.
The funeral will be held at the Methodist church tomorrow, March 2, at ten o'clock a.m., conducted by Rev. B.M. Powell. Interment will be made in the city cemetery beside the body of her husband, Rev. David Oliver, who died June 16, 1899, in this city.
Mrs. Oliver's maiden name was Susanna Wilson Hulit. She was born in New Petersburg, Ohio, May 18, 1828 and removed to Canton, Illinois with her parents when a child. She married David Oliver, a minister of the Methodist church in 1845. In 1881 they moved to Kansas, coming to Neodesha where they lived till the death of Mr. Oliver, and where she spent her remaining days, with the exception of the time spent with her daughters in other parts of the state and Oklahoma.
