New Rochelle Pioneer Dec 25 1897 - He was the son of the late Surgeon General William Maxwell Wood. Graduated Annapolis in 1865. He was a well known inventor in connection with his naval work. He invented a safety appliance for launching lifeboats from ships at sea, mechanical ice-making machines in use on many vessels, and the process of wielding metals by electricity as applied to military projectiles.
Mrs Wood and her dtrs, the Misses Jeanne West Wood and Rose Morgan Wood removed from Washington and took a pretty cottage in New Rochelle. His brother C E S Wood, was formerly of General Howard's staff.William was a Navy Engineer and contracted Brights Disease while at sea.
