DEATH OF WILLIAM JONES
Aged Edina Man Dies Sunday at Home of Son—Would Have Been 81 Yesterday.
William P. Jones, for many years a resident of Knox County, died about 9 o'clock Sunday evening at the home in Edina of a son, Clyde E. Jones. He would have been 81 years old yesterday had he lived.
The death of Mr. Jones was from diabetes. He was in failing health several years, but bedfast only a week, mostly at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Clyde Powell, where he had been staying since July and from where he was taken Friday evening to the home of his son, where death came. Mrs. Jones was visiting in Texas and arrived home Sunday afternoon.
Funeral services were at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon by the Rev. Earl S. Woodard, at the Edina Baptist Church. Burial was in the Hurdland I.O.O.F. cemetery.
Surviving Mr. Jones are his widow, eight children by a former marriage, a half-sister, Mrs. Perry (Della Monroe) Ransom, Travis City, Mich.; twenty-seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The children in their order are:
Etta, Mrs. G. H. Tate, Cherokee, Okla.; May, Mrs. Charles Kirk, and Minnie, Mrs. Clyde Powell, and George W. and Clyde E. Jones, Edina; Katherine, Mrs. E. E. Roseberry, Canby, Ore.; Emma, Mrs. W. E. Herren, Portland, Ore., and Everett Jones, Edina.
William Perry Jones, one of four children, two sons and two daughters of Moses and Martha Jones, and the last to die, was born in Monroe County, near Paris, Mo., Oct. 23, 1854. He came to Knox County when he was about 10 years old and was reared east of Hurdland by an uncle, James Waits [sic].
He married America King of Knox County in 1874 and to them were born the eight children mentioned as surviving. Mrs. Jones died in December 1907.
Mr. Jones moved to Texas twenty-three years ago and there married Mrs. Annie Lowry April 30, 1916. No children were born. Mrs. Jones survives.
Mr. and Mrs. Jones came to Edina about two and a half years ago. Mr. Jones was a charter member of the Hurdland Baptist Church.
