Graveside service for Elton Ray Evans, 71, of Tecula was at 4:30 p.m. Suday at Tecula Cemetery with the Rev. Matt Idom officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Autry Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

Mr. Evans died April 21 at his home. He was born Feb. 9, 1934, and was a lifelong resident of Cherokee County. He attended New Summerfield and Troup High School. He worked at Nichols Kusan for 25 years and was a member of the Church of Christ in Troup.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn Anderson Evans; his parents, Dan and Gertie Evans; three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Vanessa and Don Huse of Tecula; a granddaughter and her husband, Tamera and Hunter Lueckenmeyer of Dallas; a grandson, Brent Huse of Jacksonville; three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law, Genny and Gayland Smith of Bryan, Jean Evans and Jewel Evans, both of Jacksonville.

Mr. Evans had expressed a desire that in lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to send a memoriam to consider making a contributrion to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler 75701, for their support during his battle with cancer, or to any cancer-related organization.
