John H (Henry) Brantley signed up at a mass meeting that was held in the Savannah Community on 22 June 1861. This company of volunteers were known as the Savannah Blues. It was one of nine companies of volunteers preparing for service in the Confederate Army in Red River Co, Texas. There were fourteen officers and ninety-seven men. John H Brantley was listed as a Second Lieutenant and also as a Private.
