Age 78, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2011, at his home in Newark.
Bernie met his wife of 51 years, Mary, at The Lucien's in 1959 where he was the Activities Chairman. More than anything, Bud enjoyed his three children and seven grandchildren with whom he spent his summers at Pot Nets for more than 28 years. Bud loved his weekend craft shows, playing cards, crabbing, clamming, watching college basketball and Two and a Half Men. Bud worked 38 years at the DuPont Company in Edgemoor. For nearly 25 years, he coached grade school basketball for both St. Paul's and St. Hedwig's where he led his team to a State Championship in 1979.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Cornelius (Neal) and his wife Theresa Haley of Orlando, FL; his daughters, Daphne and her husband Mark Kosinski of Wilmington and Janet Haley and her partner Kevin S?nchez of San Francisco, CA. He also leaves behind grandchildren, Katherine and Kelsey Kosinski, Kearstin and husband, Dave August, all of Wilmington; CJ, Shannon, Kathy and Timmy Haley all of Orlando,FL; and his beloved Yorkies Jenny and Sushi.
Bud was a lifelong member of St Hedwig's Catholic Church, 408 S. Harrison St., Wilmington where his family will greet friends on Tuesday, June 21, at 9 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am. Interment will follow at St. Joseph's on the Brandywine Cemetery, 10 Old Church Rd, Greenville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, Inc., 3515 Silverside Road, Wilmington, DE. 19810 or to The Fund for Johns Hopkins Medecine, 100 North Charles Street, Suite 422, Baltimore, MD 21201.
