Hatter. Born in Mount Patrick (on the West side of the Susquehanna river at the intersection of State Route 1016 and Route 11/15, now in Perry County at about N 40.527 W 76.986). He learned the hatting trade from Jacob Ziegler in Harrisburg. David moved to New Holland, Pennsylvania in 1824, and in 1829 began in the hatting business for himself, which he continued in New Holland until 1852. He also pursued the hatting trade in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, starting there in about 1845, and continuing there until 1856. He was Mercantile Appraiser of Lancaster County in 1847, Lancaster County Treasurer 1852-54, Banker with Hiester, Henderson & Reed (later called John K. Reed Co.), and a farmer in Wayne County, Ohio, one mile north-west of Fairview Station (now Burton City) Ohio, 3 miles east of Orville, Ohio. Active in the Whig party. Family information is in the Shultz family bible.
