DEER LODGE - The voice of Harry "Bud" Blodgett fell to a whisper during his last days and finally fell silent Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009. He died peacefully at the age of 77. Bud was a born Aug. 8, 1931, in the Bitterroot Valley and later the family moved to Deer Lodge. He graduated from Powell County High School in 1950. He was captain of the PCHS basketball team during those days. After graduation, he joined the Navy and was stationed in Coronado, Calif., where he met his wife of 56 years, Barbara. Bud and Barbara lived in Deer Lodge with their children until 1968. In 2000, he retired from Continental Maritime, a government contractor for the building and repair of Navy ships stationed in San Diego Harbor. In 2002, Bud and Barbara, sold their home of 34 years in San Diego and returned to Deer Lodge, to make his life cycle complete. Bud had a total of seven children he called his own; Chloe Lynn, Gregory, Gary, Antoinette, Joseph, Mark and Matthew. He had eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He loved his family and they loved him.

Bud had two sons precede him in death, Gary and Joseph. Each loss took a piece of his heart. His love and kindness will be the legacy he leaves to his family.

Bud is survived by his lifelong friend, companion and wife, Barbara; his daughters, Antoinette and Chloe Lynn of Mesa, Ariz.; his sons Gregory of Folsom, Calif., Mark of San Diego and Matthew of Deer Lodge; grandchildren, Jayson (deceased), Amanda, Tara, Luke, Leah, Joseph, Timothy and Thomas; great-grandchildren, Riley, Aleena, Olyssa, Anthony and Ethan; his sister Dolores Munden of Deer Lodge; and brother Jim Blodgett of Polson. A thankful note of appreciation is given to the Powell County Council on Aging and Highlands Hospice. The staff gave exceptional care during a difficult time. The exceptional care by Frances Bauer, RN, goes beyond words. Thank you to all his friends who helped the family during his final days and hours. A funeral Mass for the life of Harry Leroy Blodgett Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 13, at the Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Clark St., Deer Lodge. A reception will follow at the St. Mary's Center following the Mass. All are welcome to attend. Burial will be at Blodgett Cemetery, Hamilton, at a later date. Wife Barbara, b. 1935, San Diego, CA
