U.S. Congressman. He attended the University of Minnesota, the Georgetown Law School, Washington, D.C., was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law at Calumet, Michigan in 1895. In Michigan, he was prosecuting attorney for Keweenaw County (1898-1904), and prosecuting attorney for Houghton County (1906-12). In 1913, he successfully contested as a Progressive the election of H. Olin Young and was awarded the seat to the Sixty-third Congress, serving until 1915. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he related to Illinois and practiced law until his death.
