U.S. Congressman. Moving to New York, in 1820, he studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1829 and opened a law practice in New York City. In 1843, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-eighth Congress, serving until 1845. After leaving Congress, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 85.
