Ronald W Ruptier
Feb. 6, 1945 - May 31, 2011
Ron Ruptier, a long-time resident of El Dorado County, died on May 31, 2011, of complications brought on by Alzheimer's disease. He will be remembered by students, athletes and colleagues from both El Dorado and Ponderosa high schools where he taught physical education and science, coached cross-country and track and field, held administrative positions and served on many school and athletic league committees. Coaching track was his passion. He was known for his upbeat greeting, "It's a great day for track and field," as his athletes boarded the bus for competition.

In addition to his career in education, Ron served in the military for 20 years, most recently as assistant to the state chaplain of the Army National Guard. He loved wearing the uniform of our country. He completed his basic training at Ford Ord and served active duty time in both the Dominican Republic and Ludwigsburg, Germany.

Ron is missed and survived by his wife, Claudia, her four daughters and their families. He also leaves his first wife, Sandra Delaney and children, Scott Ruptier and Amber Hoover and their families.

As he struggled with Alzheimer's, Ron's wife assembled a village of support, notable for the number of dogs in the group. No matter what, his special therapy dog, Nicki, or his stepdaughter's dog, Scarlett, could always bring a smile or a laugh. The noble dogs and selfless owners of Paws for a Cause, a local dog therapy group, and El Dorado Second Sight, the local chapter of Guide Dogs for the Blind, also performed their magic to keep Ron's spirits high.

Funeral services, officiated by Tim Thompson of the California Army National Guard, were held on June 3 at Green Valley Mortuary. A gathering to celebrate Ron's life will be held on June 25 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., at the Clubhouse at Ponte Palmero, 3081 Ponte Morino Drive in Cameron Park, Calif. Friends of Ron are invited to get together with Claudia and share a light snack and a memory or two. From Highway 50, exit at Cameron Park Drive and go north to the light. Turn right on Palmer Drive. At the stop sign, turn left on Ponte Morino. Ponte Palmero is the retirement community at the top of the hill on the right. Park at the back of the complex and follow signs to the Clubhouse.
