He was the son of Choctaw Chief Green McCurtain and Martha Ann Ainsworth, dau of David Spence Ainsworth and Nancy Pruitt.

D.C. McCurtain's mother died 10 Jan 1904 and is buried in the Choctaw National Cemetery at Skullyville, Okla. His father, Green McCurtain is buried in the San Bois Cemetery near Kinta, Okla.
