John E. Piper
December 12, 1922 to October 23, 1990

John E. Piper, 67, 3916 Washington Avenue, died at 7:10AM today at Bedford Medical Center.

Born in Jeffersonville Indiana, he was the son of Edwin Way and Ruth (Oliver) Piper. He married Edna Irene Jeffries December 10, 1966, and she survives.

He was a retired electronics technician at RCA, Bloomington, and a member of Oolitic Baptist Church. He was an Army veteran of WWII, serving in England.

John was a hard worker and a firm believer in self-education. He was an avid reader, and could converse on nearly any topic. He was a lover of music and theatre. He had a wonderful voice and sang in his church choir. He also loved to cook and was good at it. He was a practical man with a good sense of humor. He was proud of his family and loved them very much, and everyone who knew him loved and respected him.

Surviving with the wife are two sons: Robert A. Piper, St. Louis, Mo., and James E. Piper, West Lafayette, Ind.; One grand-daughter; three sisters: Ida Mae Tobias, Mrs. John (Alice) Brassfield, and Mrs. Howard (Susan) Kopp, all of Bedford, and one brother, William Piper of Greenwood Indiana, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will be at 2PM Thursday at Day & Carter Mortuary with the Rev. Richard Tallman officiating. Burial will be in Cresthaven Memory Gardens, with graveside military rites by Gillen Post #33, American Legion.

Friends may call at the mortuary from 2PM to 9PM Wednesday and until the service on Thursday.
