Ida was born in Sterling, CO on December 17, 1915 to parent's Archie and Elsie (Keys) Spaur. The family moved to Sidney, MT in 1917. She attended school in Sidney. Her mother would take the children to North Dakota or South Dakota to help with the harvest on her aunt and uncle Seversen's farm. These were times she treasured. As a teenager she worked in the beet fields for a few summers and later worked for the Duff Bell family taking care of their children. In 1932-1933 she spent one year in Minnesota attending a Bible College. Ida married Stanley "Bob" Lanz on April 11, 1934 in Snowden, MT. Together they had five children, Flora, Winifred, Candace, Robert, and Kenneth.
Ida started working at the hospital in 1947. In the early 50's she took a course in nursing and received her LPN license. She continued working at the hospital for 10 years. She then worked at the Ben Franklin Store until it closed. Ida then worked at Richland Homes for the next 15 until her retirement in the fall of 1978. Ida and Stan moved to Arizona and spent 20 winters there traveling in the summer to visit family and friends. Ida and Stan returned to Sidney in May 1999 moving into Crestwood Inn. Stan passed away on July 19, 2005.
Ida enjoyed reading, crocheting, making pot holders, and over 50 quilts for her family. She volunteered at the hospital mending gowns and was President of the Hospital Guild for two years. Upon entering the Extended Care she enjoyed playing Bingo and attending all the activities.
Ida died on Monday, June 13, 2011 at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility.
