Archie Myers
Archie L. Myers, progressive farmer of White Rock township, was stricken with a heart attack Saturday morning and died on his way home from Smith Center, where he had delivered a truckload of hogs. He was a quarter of a mile from home when death came to him. At Smith Center he stated he was not feeling right and wanted to get back to his home eight and half miles northwest of Lebanon.
Burl Grewell, a neighbor, saw Mr. Myers' truck leave the road and run into a field, where it came to a stop after striking a tree and a haystack. He suspected something was wrong, hurried to the scene and found his neighbor had passed away.
Archie LeRoy Myers was born at Lebanon Kansas, May 18, 1908, and died on January 12, 1952, at the age of 43 years, 7 months and 24 days. He was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy R. Myers (Roy Russell Myers and Mabel Ann Mannering).
He received his elementary education in the Simmons school, District 83, graduated from the Lebanon High School in 1926 and then attended Salt City Business College in Hutchinson, Kansas. Archie enjoyed all athletics especially baseball, football and basketball.
Upon returning from school in Hutchinson he became associated with his father in farming, which was his vocation until his death.
On December 24, 1931, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Woodbury at her home in Cawker City, Kansas. To them were born three sons, Gary, who is now a freshman at Kansas State College, Manhattan, Kansas and two babies dying in infancy.
Archie was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church at Independence. He was interested in the welfare of his community, serving on the school board for several years, and at the time of his death was a member of the township board.
Archie was a kind and loving father and a devoted husband. He loved little children and at all times was ready and willing to help his neighbors in time of trouble.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Dorothy; his son Gary; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy R. Myers; his brother Russell and family of Salina, Kansas; his sister Doris Dean Utermoehlen and family of McCune, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends.
