CIVIL WAR VETERAN

Henri William Theodore " Harry " Mali Jr lived in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. During the Civil War, he enlisted in the 20th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry ( 3rd Brigade, 2nd Division, II Corps, Army of the Potomac ), also known as " The Harvard Regiment ". Commissioned a First Lieutenant in Company I on March 8th, 1864, Henri W.T. Mali Jr was wounded during the Battle of the Wilderness ( May 5th - 7th, 1864, Virginia )... and received his commission as Captain on the last day of the battle! Discharged from active service on May 20th, 1865, he then returned to New York with the aim of taking the lead of the H.W.T. Mali & Company, a family textile company established in 1826 by his father, Henri W.T. Mali Sr ( who was appointed Belgian Consul in New York during the 1830's ). Henri W.T. Mali Jr. died unmarried at the age of 52.
