US Congressman. A successful farmer, he graduated from law department of the University of Indiana, in 1905, was admitted to the bar and proceeded to practice law in Washington, Indiana. He was a member of the Indiana Board of Education, county attorney of Daviess County, and prosecuting attorney for the forty-ninth judicial circuit. In 1923, he was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-eighth Congress and to the next seven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1939. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his farming interest and practiced law until his death at age 83.
