Martha Grace Osborne was born on March 14, 1887 to David and Jennie Osborne in Minneapolis, MN. Grace was the eldest daughter in the family that included two older half-brothers, Louis and Rollin, and two younger sisters, Sadie and Pearl. The Osborne family removed to Indianapolis soon after Grace's birth. Grace married at a very young age, just 16, to Gurdon Fithian on December 27, 1903, about a year later she gave birth to her son Glenn Osborn Fithian on December 15, 1904. The couple divorced before 1910 and Grace and Glenn returned to the Osborne household on Beville Ave.

Grace was happiest when she was tending to poultry and gardening. She donated both her time and crops to the nearby Christian mission that fed the poor. It was at the mission that Grace met her second husband Frank Flucawa, a young immigrant from Japan that shared her interests and faith. Grace and Frank married on December 30, 1912. Grace and Frank spent many happy years living on a small farm near E. 16th St. and Pleasant Run Pkwy where they sold poultry, produce and fresh flowers. Their ornamental garden was a very pleasant setting for the family get togethers and can be seen in many old photos.

In 1942 Grace and Frank moved to New Castle where they bought property and continued their poultry and cut flower business and became Quakers. The couple enjoyed many happy years in New Castle, entertaining friends and family, including one grandson, Paul Wesley Fithian. Sadly, in November 1954, at age 67, Grace succumbed to heart disease and passed from this world. She is buried at Southmound Cemetery next to Frank who passed in 1974.
